LOCAL INVESTMENT FUND

The Local Investment Fund (LIF) is a £3 million loan fund, established in 1994 through a partnership between the Department of the Environment and the private sector. The Fund has been established to provide loans (unlike the Community Investment Fund which makes grants) of between £25,000 and £250,000 to economically viable enterprises operated by voluntary organisations in areas in need of regeneration in England where loans can't be raised on reasonable terms from conventional market sources.

The Fund will make loans to community based enterprises which can demonstrate economic viability.This means that the borrower must be able to pay the interest and repay the capital when these are due. In general LIF money is lent at current commercial rates.
